We flew from Amsterdam to Zurich, and continued on our journey to Grindelwald via train.
I was surprised we didn’t have to show passports to board the plane or go through customs when we arrived…I guess they must have an agreement with the EU? But security at the Amsterdam airport was probably the tightest I’ve experienced. They inspected several of our bags, though I think the reason they checked mine was because of the hard-sided CF/SD card holder I had in my camera bag.
We had some concerns over whether they would let us take both our carryon bag plus personal item (the website said only one was okay but the info at checkin said otherwise). Turned out to be a non-issue thankfully – we’re flying with the same airline again so we know for next time, but will have to figure it out for a different airline for the flight to Rome.
Here are a few photos from our brief stop in Zurich:

After our last European trip and the ghost trains in Germany, I wasn’t sure what to expect regarding train travel in Switzerland. We had to take 4 trains from the Zurich airport to get to our destination so my expectations were low…..but we made it!! And the trip was breathtaking!

The next day was our day to visit the “Top of Europe,” or Jungfraujoch. Bonus, it was our boy’s big birthday! We took a ginormous tram to a train that traveled through the mountain to the top. Later on we learned about all the hard work and sacrifice that went into making that journey a possibility.
From there we explored all of the overlooks, the Ice Palace, and all the amazing sights. Again I can’t get my canon connected to my phone to share any of those photos (boo!), but I took some with my iPhone as well…
We really had a terrific day!
