Day 8: Nice

We arrived in Nice without incident, and made our way to our reserved flat overlooking the Mediterranean.

The air was humid, yet the gentle breeze made the temperature perfect – except in the very middle of the day. We decided one of the first things to do was swim in the Mediterranean Sea! I wondered about its level of salinity as it seemed saltier than the Pacific Ocean; after some research I found that is true. Also true are the stories of its beautiful color….

The beaches were very different from ones I’d seen before. They weren’t sandy at all, but had large, smooth oval stones that sounded melodic as the ocean rolled them around in the waves. They weren’t super comfortable to lay on, but tolerable considering the lovely scene!

Next up, we hopped on a tram looking for a dive shop, so those of us certified as PADI divers might dive in the Mediterranean. We successfully booked an outing for the following day, then explored the port. We ended the excursion with an excellent meal at an Irish pub on the wharf.
