Today we visited two very different locales to learn about the history of the area and the people who lived here.
First up was the Ribes Vikinger museum. We saw artifacts and read about the history, documented back to at least 600 AD!
Here is what we saw at the museum:

Here was a reference to the ruins we visited yesterday:

And here were the sharp implements:

Interestingly enough, the same person that we read about in Utrecht who is considered responsible for bringing Christianity there (Ansgar) appeared in the history of Ribe:

We also saw a nod to Mando, where we were yesterday:

There was an interesting section of the museum devoted to aerial archaeology. Apparently they’ve been using airplanes before farms are planted in the spring and after harvest in the fall, to figure out where settlements used to be located.
Here is one of the maps:

Once we finished there, we headed to the Ribe Viking Center, which is a recreation of a traditional village…complete with artisans, Icelandic horses, and falconry!
This was the Viking Center:

Shield wall!

And this was our view as we hiked back to our place:

Tomorrow we head to Copenhagen. Until then!
